The 2017 “Building Bridges: Eastern Iowa Assistive Technology Conference” will provide an opportunity to see first-hand the latest in assistive technologies (AT), practices, and services for school-age students with disabilities. This AT conference will serve as a unique opportunity for professionals, parents, administrators and service providers to exchange and gather information on the current status and assistive technology tools available for consideration.

The intent of this session is to provide the opportunity for communication partners, who interact regularly with learners with complex communication needs, to increase their awareness and use of appropriate partner strategies/skills needed to create an optimal communication environment.
Research-based communication partner strategies and techniques will be introduced, practiced, and discussed throughout this session to support expansion and growth of communication skills for those reliant on augmented and alternate forms of communication. Special education teachers who currently implement SMART Communication Partner strategies in their classroom will share successes and challenges in the classroom setting.
